Mr Sudama Jee was the best friend and devotee of Lord Krishna. They were the knower and scholars of all Vedas and Brahmins. His friendship with Sri Krishna took place in the Gurukul of Rishi Sandeepani. Sudama Ji used to teach children of her village and used her life according to Brahmin rituals. Though he was a poor Brahmin, Sudama remained satisfied only in this and used to sing hari hymns.
Sudama Young Life
Sudama’s family was living a life of extreme poverty and misery. Many times he had to sleep hungry stomach too. Sudama used to blame himself for the plight of himself and his family. He used to express his thoughts to his wife many times with a sad heart. So Sudama’s wife reminded Sudama about her ally friend Shrikrishna, who was then the king of Dwarka. Sudama and Krishna lived together in childhood and both of them together had studied at the ashram of Sandeep Muni.
Sudama’s wife urged Sudama to go to her and said, “Sri Krishna is very kind, so they will definitely help us.” Sudama said in a shy voice, “Sri Krishna is a mighty king and I am a poor Brahmin. How can I go to them and ask for help? ‘His wife responded immediately,’ What happened? There is no discrimination in friendship. You must ask them for help. I do not see hunger and thirst for children. ‘Ultimately Sudama agreed to go to Shri Krishna. His wife brought a little rice from neighbours and asked Sudama to give her the rice to her friend.
Sudama leaves for Dwarka When the palace reached the gate, the guard there stopped Sudama from entering the palace. Sudama said that she is the son of King Krishna of childhood and she will not be there without seeing her. This is the story of Krishna’s ears too. As soon as he heard Sudama’s name, there was no place for his happiness. They ran on bare feet to meet Sudama. Both of them embraced each other and the eyes of both of them got tears of joy. Sri Krishna took Sudama under the palace with respect and hospitality. He himself washed the feet of Sudama Sitting them on their own throne Krishna’s wives also engaged in respect for both of them. Both friends ate together and remembered their childhood days spent in the ashram.>
When eating food while asking about the gift brought by Sudama to Sudama, Sudama became ashamed and was hesitant to remove the rice kept in her dirty bottle. But Shrikrishna took the potty from Sudama’s hands and began to eat those rice with great passion.
After the meal, Shri Krishna summoned Sudama to his own soft bed and sat down there and pressed till his sleep till he became sleepy. After staying there for a few days, Sudama instructed to depart from Krishna. Sri Krishna gave Sundamya a romantic farewell with his family. During this, Sudama could not tell the reason for his friend coming to Dwarka and he returned to his house only after troubleshooting his problem. He did not understand what he would reply to his wife and children, who were eagerly waiting for him. In front of Sudama, the sad faces of their families were coming again and again. But in the meantime, Shri Krishna had completed his duty. The broken hut of Sudama turned into a beautiful and spacious palace. His wife and children, wearing beautiful clothes and jewellery, stood for his welcome. By the grace of Shri Krishna, he became wealthy only.
Sudama did not even have any objection to taking any help from Krishna. Indeed, Shri Krishna had proved to be a true friend of Sudama, who helped poor Sudama during the bad times.
